The Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced on Tuesday that the country’s air force will conduct military exercises from August 9 to 25, Reuters reports.
The training will be conducted with live fire and will be held in two stages: on August 9-11 in Belarus, and then at the Ashuluk base in Russia on August 22-25, the department said.
Belarus, Russia’s main ally, which borders Ukraine, was used by Moscow to launch its offensive.
In May, the President of Belarus, Oleksandr Lukashenko, appealed to the Minister of Defense in Minsk to learn from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for the development and equipping of the Belarusian military, Ukrainian Pravda reports.
“I will say honestly that otherwise we would perceive our army and, first of all, the armament of our army. And again, frankly speaking, the military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine taught us a lot,” Lukashenko said.
Oleksandr Lukashenko wants to produce the Iskander short-range mobile ballistic missile complex by the end of the year.
In May, Belarus purchased S-400 air defense systems and Iskander missiles from Russia.
