The Kremlin on Tuesday condemned “hostile” measures taken against Russian citizens in some European countries, such as restricting their access to France’s Vincennes Castle, and asked those countries to show “reason”, AFP reported.
Access to the Chateau de Vincennes outside Paris, which houses the archives of the French Ministry of Defense, is restricted to visitors from Russia based on an internal directive issued after the start of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Responding to questions about this measure, as well as Finland’s calls to stop issuing tourist visas to Russian citizens, Kremlin press secretary Dmytro Peskov called on these countries to “come to their senses.”
“These statements come from countries that we have identified as unfriendly (…) Many of these countries are driven by their enmity to the point of unconsciousness,” Peskov told the press.
“I believe that over time, common sense will prevail again and those who make such statements will come to their senses,” the Kremlin representative added.
France’s defense ministry confirmed to AFP on Monday that it had restricted access to the Chateau de Vincennes for Russian citizens after Moscow launched a war in Ukraine, but stressed that “requests related to the exercise of the journalistic profession” could be received.
This is after two Russian women were barred from entering this castle, which also houses one of the Historical Defense Service (SHO) centers, at the end of July.
Meanwhile, in Finland, the opposition conservative party called for an end to tourist visas for Russian citizens after an increase in Russian tourist arrivals was seen in the country.
