OUR Chinawith his decision to suspend bilateral negotiations with USA per climatepunishes not Washington, but the whole world, US Special Representative for Climate Change John Kerry said yesterday.
“No country should block progress on existential transnational issues because of bilateral differences,” said the former US Secretary of State, who is now the top climate diplomat in the Biden administration. “Suspension of cooperation does not punish the US. It punishes the world, especially the developing world,” he said.
Beijing announced on Friday that it was suspending dialogue with Washington on several fronts in response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
Among other things, negotiations on combating climate change, dialogue between the military of the two countries, cooperation in the fight against cross-border crime and drug smuggling have been suspended.
Washington called such moves “irresponsible.”
