A minivan carrying 15 migrants crashed into another vehicle after maneuvering to avoid a police checkpoint and caught fire near the village of Boca, 122km south of Budapest, Hungarian police said in a statement posted online. .
Two migrants in the van died on the spot, and a third died from his injuries in hospital. Eleven people have been hospitalized.
The driver, a citizen of Georgia, was detained. According to the police, he is allegedly a member of a human trafficking gang.
About 157,000 migrants have arrived at the border with Hungary since early 2022, more than in 2021, according to presidential adviser Viktor Orban.
