
Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi arrived today at Japanthe last stop of her tour of Asia, which included visiting Taiwan which angered China.
AFP reporters saw the plane carrying Pelosi land at Yokota Air Base near Tokyo from South Korea.
Beijing, which considers the self-governing island of Taiwan part of its territory, has launched an unprecedented military exercise to protest Mrs. Pelosi’s visit to Taipei.
Five Chinese-launched ballistic missiles appear to have landed in Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi said earlier today, adding that this is the first such incident.
When the Chinese military schools were announced, Tokyo, a close ally of Washington, expressed its “concern.”
Pelosi, 82, on her first visit to Japan since 2015, is scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida tomorrow morning, public broadcaster NHK reported.
