Kachura was the commander of the missile and artillery division, had the rank of colonel of the “people’s militia” of the Donetsk separatists. His death was announced by the mayor of Horlivka, a town captured by pro-Russian separatists during fighting in 2014.

Since then, it remains under the control of pro-Russian forces. Before participating in the creation of separatist armed formations, Kachura worked in the Donetsk Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

“Today is a rainy day for Horlivka and the republic. A brave and wise woman who stood near the origins of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) died tragically. Olga Serhiyivna Kachura, the victorious and steadfast “Korsa” tragically died, the mayor of Ivan Prykhodko announced on his Telegram channel.

The pro-Russian authorities claim that Olga Kachura died during the Ukrainian bombing of the city.

“Korsa”, a victim of Ukrainian bombings?

Members of the Russian military community have been accusing Ukrainian forces since June 8 of intensifying artillery shelling of areas behind Russian positions. The former commander of the separatists in the East of Ukraine, Ihor Girkin, then claimed that the Ukrainians would attack Horlivka and Makiivka.

Like Girkin, nicknamed “Strelkov” and Arsen “Motorola” Pavlov, Kachura was better known among pro-Russian separatists and the Russian public by her call sign “Korsa”.

On July 23, a powerful explosion occurred at the ammunition warehouse in Horlivka, the details of the incident are unknown. Pro-Russian separatists and Russian media have consistently accused the Ukrainian armed forces of bombing or rocketing residential areas, reports that have never been independently confirmed.

The liquidation of “Korsa” was also announced by Ukrainian colonel Anatoly Shtefan, who in his characteristic style noted that it “made a gesture of goodwill” and was officially de-Nazified and demilitarized, referring to official Kremlin propaganda.
