Today, a volcano erupted near the city of Reykjavikthe capital of Iceland, in a lava-spewing fissure near Mount Fagrandalsfjall, where a volcano has already erupted in 2021.
The fissure, located almost 40 kilometers from Reykjavik, showed lava flows that turned into smoking rock as the material cooled.

The Icelandic Meteorological Institute, which monitors seismic activity, estimated the crack to be about 300 meters long.
The institute said the eruption began in the Merandalir Valley, less than a kilometer from the site of the 2021 eruption.
According to an AFP correspondent, residents flocked to the area of the eruption, admiring the sight of boiling lava and the roaring sound of magma eruption.
Despite the absence of an ash cloud, the institute calculated “It is possible that contamination could be detected due to gas fumes.”
The gases from volcanic eruptions, mainly sulfur dioxide, can travel long distances and pose health risks.
This type of pollution can also be carried by the wind.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Meteorological Institute announced that the possibility of another eruption near Mount Fagrandalsfial “is considered strong in the coming days or weeks.”
