The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation declared the Ukrainian regiment “Azov” a “terrorist” organization

The Supreme Court of Russia declared the Ukrainian regiment “Azov” a “terrorist” organization and banned its activities on the territory of the Russian Federation. On Tuesday, August 2, he satisfied the corresponding complaint of the Attorney General’s Office of the Russian Federation. At the same time, “the decision on the ban on the activities of the organization is subject to immediate execution”, states the decision of the highest Russian court.

According to Interfax, the process was partially carried out behind closed doors. In the open part, among others, the director of the Historical Memory Foundation Alexander Dyukov and a member of the Human Rights Council under the presidency of the Russian Federation (HRC) Marina Akhmedova spoke as experts, and the operative part of the decision was announced . The Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation filed a lawsuit to recognize Azov as a “terrorist” organization in May.

In mid-May, several hundred people left the territory of the Azovstal factory in Mariupol, which had been defended by soldiers of the Azov regiment for several weeks. They were taken to the territory of the self-proclaimed “DNR”. Ukraine’s Armed Forces called it a “rescue operation” and emphasized that the captured Azovstal soldiers would soon be exchanged. In late July, as a result of an attack on the colony at Yelenovka, more than 50 captured Azov fighters were killed.
