Arriving in the main draw from qualifying, Romania’s Gabriela Li (ex-Talaba) was stopped in the first round of the WTA Charleston by American Ashlyn Kruger, 7-6(0), 6-3.

Gabriela Lee lost to Ashlyn Kruger in the first round of the WTA Charleston

Based on qualification, Gabriela Lee (312 WTA) failed to pass the first round in Charleston.

After a balanced first set, they reached a tie-break, where Kruger did not give the Romanian a chance: 7-0.

The American also controlled the second set, missing two match points before wrapping up the match after one hour and 45 minutes.

In the second round, Ashlyn Kruger (73 WTA) will meet the fourth favorite of the tournament, Daria Kasatkina.

For her presence in the main draw, the Romanian secured a check for $3,740 and a single point in the world ranking.

Only Romanian Jacqueline Christian remains in the WTA Charleston main draw after Ana Bohdan was eliminated in the first round.

The Credit One Charleston Open is a WTA 500 tournament that takes place from April 1 to 7. It is played on green clay and the total prize pool is $922,573. The champion of the title is Ons Jabert.

The main favorites from Charleston: Jessica Pegula (1), Ons Jaber (2), Maria Sakkari (3), Daria Kasatkina (4), Beatrice Haddad Maya (5), Kateryna Alexandrova (6), Elina Svitolina (7), Madison Keys (8).
