An Jin retired from JAC, a Chinese state-owned company, in 2021 after 46 years with the company, including 9 years as chairman of the board.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Beijing’s anti-corruption bureau, said on its website that Any was suspected of “serious violations of discipline and law,” without giving details of the allegations.

JAC did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

JAC works with both the German giant Volkswagen and the Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio.

In 2017, JAC formed a joint venture with Volkswagen to produce electric vehicles, with both companies holding an equal 50% stake in the business. Volkswagen later took a majority stake after Beijing eased certain participation rules for foreign companies.

A Volkswagen representative said on Tuesday that the investigation against An Jin does not affect the activities carried out in partnership with JAC.

JAC is a manufacturing partner of Nio, but in December the latter announced the acquisition of some assets of Jianghuai Automobile Group. Nio said on Tuesday that the investigation had not affected his partnership with JAC or his operations.
