John Higgins exited the Snooker Tour Championship in the first round as the multiple world champion was beaten 10-7 by Mark Allen (world number three).

John Higgins defeated Mark Allen for the 2024 Tour Championship

A four-time Crucible World Championship winner (1998, 2007, 2009 and 2011), Higgins started the match well and led 4-1, but Allen took the lead after four straight frames.

There followed a period where they went head-to-head but The Gun was able to pull away and Wishaw Wizard (10th in the world) was unable to return.

Mark Allen will fight in the quarter with the Chinese Ding Junhui (7th in the world ranking).

In other matches starting Monday, Gary Wilson (No. 13) leads Mark Selby (No. 5) 5-3, while Mark Williams (No. 8) has a 5-3 advantage over Tom Ford (No. 15).

Johnstone’s Paint Tour Championship 2024 will be held from April 1 to 7 in the center of Manchester (England). The tournament has a total prize pool of £500,000 and the reigning champion is Sean Murphy (2023).

A place in the semi-finals is awarded £40,000, the finalists receive £60,000 and the grand champion £150,000.
