Cristian Popescu Piedone, the mayor of Sector 5 and a candidate for the capital’s mayoralty, dismissed allegations of nepotism in a statement to Digi24 on Friday and said he saw nothing inappropriate in the decision to hire his nephews under his leadership. on the grounds that they are not first degree relatives.

“If he is a grandson of the 17th relative, he is not a grandson of the 1st degree,” Christian Popescu told Piedone, clarifying that for any appointment he has the written consent of the National Integrity Agency. “Relatives mean only relatives of the 1st degree, that is, incompatibility,” he also stated, quoted by news.ro.

When asked by the Digi24 moderator if he does not see a moral problem, Piedone rejected this claim and emphasized that he wants to work with young people, not with “traitors”.

An Avangarde poll commissioned by Digi24 shows that if the local elections were held on Sunday, Cristian Popescu Piedone would get 44% of the votes in the capital city hall, followed by Nikušor Dan with 27% and PSD-PNL candidate Dr. Cătălin Cîrstoiu, 16%.

In contrast, another Sociopol poll, conducted immediately after PSD and PNL announced Kirshta’s candidacy, stated that 34% of those who expressed their voting option would vote for Nikushor Dan.
