The Israeli military said it killed a Hezbollah commander in an airstrike on a car in Lebanon on Sunday, identifying him as Ismail Al-Zina, commander of the anti-tank missile unit of Hezbollah’s Radwan force, Reuters reported.
“Al-Zin was a significant source of anti-tank missile knowledge and was responsible for dozens of anti-tank missile attacks against Israeli civilians, communities and security forces,” the Israeli military said.
A source close to Hezbollah said al-Zin was not a high-ranking figure, but confirmed he was a member of its elite Radwan unit.
Israel killed about 25 members of the unit, including at least three commanders such as Wissma Tawil, a senior Hezbollah officer who played an important role in coordinating the group’s operations in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on Israel from the hills and villages of southern Lebanon on October 8 in support of its Palestinian ally Hamas, which launched a cross-border attack on Israel the day before.
Israel’s bombing of Lebanon killed nearly 270 Hezbollah fighters, but also killed about 50 civilians, including children, doctors and journalists.
The US and other countries have sought a diplomatic solution to stop the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. Hezbollah has said it will not cease fire until a cease-fire is implemented in Gaza.
