The 32-year-old player of the Moscow “Spartak” was sentenced to six years in prison for dealing in cocaine.
Arrested for “local crimes” in the United Arab Emirates in early March, he was sent to a prison in Al Aweer, near Dubai, to await extradition to his homeland.
In addition to the cold and the noise, the daily life of Quincy Promes was radically changed by particularly difficult conditions, reports De Telegraaf.
Although Quincy Promise’s cell is supposed to house five people, it actually houses up to 20 inmates, some of whom sleep on the floor. He shares a cell with four other Dutch prisoners who are also awaiting extradition, as well as Pakistanis, Egyptians and Indians, many of them drug addicts who know nothing of his past as a football star.
Rape is very common in this penitentiary, where there are very few guards. All detainees must have their heads shaved upon arrival. If the hair is deemed too long, prisoners are punished by not being allowed to watch TV or make phone calls.
Finally, despite being allowed to exercise three times a week, the Dutch player (50 caps – 7 goals) is apparently unable to participate in any physical activity due to the lack of available equipment. Therefore, he cannot keep himself physically fit or lead a healthy lifestyle because he is not served fruits or vegetables at meals, the quoted source wrote.
On February 14, the current striker of Spartak Moscow Quincy Promes (32 years old) was sentenced by a Dutch court to six years in prison for importing more than a ton of cocaine into the Netherlands. Due to fear of being arrested by the Dutch police, the football player did not appear in the Dutch court to clarify the sentence, and Russia has not extradited him yet.
The NOS station, with reference to the Russian media, reported that Promes was arrested at the Dubai airport on March 1 for fleeing the scene of an accident. The football player was in the United Arab Emirates for a meeting with his club. The rest of his team returned to Russia, but Promes was arrested and taken to a police station, according to NOS.
The attacker was found guilty of playing a “crucial role” in importing 1,363 kilograms of cocaine from Brazil in 2020 through the Belgian port of Antwerp to the Netherlands with the help of an accomplice.
The footballer was also sentenced to 18 months in prison in another case because he fatally wounded his cousin over a stolen necklace in 2020, News.ro reported.
