The United States has authorized the transfer of billions of dollars worth of bombs and fighter jets to Israel in recent days, even as it publicly expresses concern about an expected military offensive on Rafah, the Washington Post reported on Friday.

The new weapons packages include more than 1,800 2,000-kilogram MK84 bombs and 500 500-kilogram MK82 bombs, the newspaper said, citing Pentagon and State Department officials familiar with the matter.

Washington provides $3.8 billion annually in military aid to Israel, its longtime ally.

The United States has sent more anti-aircraft systems and ammunition to Israel, but some Democrats and Arab-American groups have criticized the Biden administration’s unwavering support for Israel, which they say creates a sense of impunity, Reuters reported.

“We continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself,” a White House spokesperson told WP. “Our policy was not a condition of assistance.”
