Almost all 45 people on board a bus were killed in a serious road accident in South Africa on Thursday after the car they were traveling in plunged about 50 meters from a bridge, AFP and Agerpres reported.
“The accident involving a bus carrying passengers from Botswana to Moria (North) has resulted in at least 45 deaths and one serious injury,” the transport ministry said in a statement.
“It seems that the driver lost control, hitting the fence on the bridge. The bus drove over the bridge and fell into a ravine, after which it caught fire,” the department said.
A total of 46 people were in the bus, including the driver. As a result of the accident, only one person, an eight-year-old child, survived, the regional transport department reported. The child was taken to the hospital.
The accident happened on a huge suspension bridge between two hills near Mmamatlakala, Limpopo Province (North), 300 km from Johannesburg.
