King Charles III is “disappointed” with the pace of his recovery after being diagnosed with cancer, says his grandson Peter Phillips, the first member of the British royal family to speak in detail about the monarch’s well-being, writes Reuters.
Peter Phillips, the eldest of Queen Elizabeth II’s eight grandchildren and Princess Anne’s son, told Sky News Australia that the king was disappointed his recovery was taking longer than he would have liked.
“He’s upset that he can’t continue to do all the things he’d like to do,” said King Charles’ grandson, according to Reuters.
He said that while he is pragmatic and understands that recovery will take time, the British monarch is eager to return to normal life.
“He’s always making his staff and everyone — doctors and nurses — say, ‘Can I really do this, can I do this?'” Peter Phillips said.
Britain’s Queen Camilla said on Thursday that her husband Charles was doing “very well”. She made the remarks while greeting crowds during a visit to Northern Ireland.
King Charles, 75, hopes to attend a low-key Easter service and family reunion next Sunday, although his attendance has not been confirmed in advance. Kensington Palace said that neither Kate nor her husband, the heir to the throne, Prince William, will attend the Easter service.
In early February, Buckingham Palace announced that the king had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment. The royal family did not reveal the type of cancer that King Charles was diagnosed with, but Buckingham Palace clarified that it was not prostate cancer. The British monarch was hospitalized in January for surgery to treat prostate disease, and the cancer was discovered during the monarch’s hospitalization at the London Clinic, a private hospital in the British capital.
Britain’s Princess Kate of Wales, 42, announced on Friday that she is undergoing treatment after medical tests following abdominal surgery in January revealed she had cancer.
