Linda Noskova pulled off a surprise start to the year by knocking out Iga Sviatek in the third round of the 2024 Australian Open, and the young player from the Czech Republic gave the world No. 1 big trouble again in the third round of the championship. WTA 1000 tournament in Miami.

Iga Svyatek, in the 1/8 finals of WTA Miami – victory in three sets against Linda Noskova

Sviatek started the match almost perfectly and led 2-0 and 40-15, but followed a run of seven points in a row, won by Noskova (31 WTA), who managed to level the score at 2.

Iga checked another break and seemed to break out decisively (5-2), but this time Linda did not give up the fight and turned the first set into a tie-break, saved the set point 6-5 for the Pole and won 8-6.

It looked like the 19-year-old Czech would make a comeback in the second set, even though Sviatek led 5-1, but managed to win just one break and lost 6-4.

In the end, Iga won after two hours and 33 minutes of play, making the only break in the deciding set in the fifth game.

  • It was the fourth meeting between them and the third since 2024. Sviatek won in Warsaw 2022 (6-1, 6-4), Indian Wells 2024 (6-4, 6-0) and Miami 2024 [(6)6-7, 6-4, 6-4)]and Noskova won the Australian Open 2024 (3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
  • For Iga Svyatek – a match with Kateryna Aleksandrova (16 WTA), who won the match with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (22 WTA) from the Russian with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
  • Svyatek leads 3-1 in head-to-head matches with Aleksandrova.
