Chancellor Karl Nehhammer arrived at the European Council on Thursday, and when he sat down to announce his arrival ahead of the summit, a reporter pushed the microphone a little harder or further. Nehammer tried to dodge, but the microphone still smacked him lightly in the chin. The chancellor smiled, moved the microphone away and continued his statement.

But memes also appeared on social networks, in one of which it was written: “if microphones could pierce.”

Addressing the press, Karl Nehammer stated that he is against the use of revenues from Russian assets frozen due to sanctions to arm Ukraine.

In the case of some neutral countries, such as Austria, they must receive guarantees that if they support receiving revenues from Russian assets, the money “will not be spent on arms and ammunition.”

As we well know, the Chancellor of Austria also stands in the way of Romania’s full accession to Schengen.

At the beginning of March in Bucharest at the Congress of the European People’s Party, he stated that “Austria’s position remains clear and unchanged: the Schengen system is currently not working, so it cannot be extended.”

At the end of December, the EU Council announced that Romania and Bulgaria will join Schengen with an air and sea border on March 31, 2024.

The authorities in Bucharest tried to introduce a specific date for the lifting of land border controls during the talks in December 2023, but all they got was a promise of talks.
