In his first visit to Kyiv since accompanying US President Joe Biden to the Ukrainian capital 13 months ago, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan reiterated on Wednesday his belief that the US House of Representatives would eventually approve additional military aid to Ukraine , despite being blocked — in various ways — in Congress for months, according to CNN and Reuters

But speaking to reporters alongside Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, Sullivan could not give a time frame for when the $60 billion package for Ukraine is expected to be approved.

“We are confident that we will get a strong bipartisan vote in the House of Representatives for an aid package for Ukraine, and we will send that aid … It has already taken too long … I will not make predictions as to exactly when that will happen, it will be done,” Sullivan said as the US Congress goes into a two-week recess at the end of the week.

Biden’s main liaison with Ukraine urged the hosts not to surrender to the United States. “You have to believe in the United States … We have provided tremendous support, and we will continue to do so every day and in every way we know how,” Sullivan said. President Biden, he added, fought every day for the aid package.

Sullivan also met with President Zelensky to discuss the “urgent need” for Congress to pass the bill, National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said. (News.ro)
