Postmen will stop work on Wednesday morning for two hours in almost all post offices in the country due to a warning strike announced by the Union of Postal Workers of Romania, Agerpres reports. The trade unions have warned that if the management of the Romanian Post does not agree to the conclusion of the collective labor agreement and the demands of the workers, a general strike will be announced at the enterprise. This action will affect almost half of Romania’s population, namely pensioners, welfare recipients and litigants who have lawsuits and must receive subpoenas, News.ro said.

Wednesday’s protest will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., according to the union organization, during which SLPR members and other branches of the National Bloc of Trade Unions (BNS) will picket the headquarters of the National Postal Company of Romania (CNPR).

Also, during the warning strike, representatives of postal workers will be present in front of the headquarters of the Romanian post office in almost all counties of the country.

The Vice President of the National Bank of Romania, Mircea Burlacu, announced at a press conference on Tuesday that the Romanian postal workers, members of the trade union, will declare a warning strike on Wednesday morning for two hours, and if the state of negotiations on the collective labor agreement is not fixed, a general strike will be launched .

“Currently, more than two-thirds of Romanian postal workers have a living wage, earning the minimum wage in the economy. Due to this situation, the claims we had during the collective bargaining were for a salary increase of 400 lei net and an increase of the loyalty bonus by a percentage of 5% to 10%. The rest consisted in supporting the text of the collective labor agreement in the form in which the text, which generally regulates the rights and obligations of the parties in the labor contract, was agreed upon during the previous negotiations. No consensus has yet been reached,” the union leader was quoted as saying by Agerpres on Tuesday.

According to him, if the situation is not resolved, then within a reasonable period of 2 to 5 days, an actual strike will be launched, which will involve the termination of the Romanian post office.

The union leader emphasized that almost half of the population of Romania would be affected in the event of a general strike, given that the purpose of the Romanian post office is to distribute pensions to more than 5 million pensioners, the distribution of all social assistance and other benefits that the Ministry of Labor subsidizes to people in a vital situation .

“Last but not least, taking into account that the Romanian Post is sending out all summonses and subpoenas of the courts, the problem of dysfunction inside the country will be the main one,” said the vice president of the National Bank of Romania, Mircea Burlacu
