Nvidia NVDA.O on Monday announced a hardware and software platform for building humanoid robots that includes generative artificial intelligence features, Reuters reported.
The new platform will consist of a computer system that powers the robot and artificial intelligence, as well as a software package that includes genAI and other tools for creating human-like robots, the company said at its annual developer conference.
The addition of genAI will allow humanoid robots to perform actions based on input with a combination of speech, video, “human demonstrations” and past experiences. The genAI components, called Project GR00T, will complement the company’s existing hardware and software platform for robotics.
“These smarter, faster and better robots will be deployed in the world’s heavy industry,” said Rev Lebaredian, vice president of Omniverse and Simulation Technology, during a briefing with reporters. “We are working with the entire robotics and simulation ecosystem around the world to accelerate development and adoption.”
The powerful computer behind the genAI software is called “Jetson Thor” and is based on one of the company’s artificial intelligence chips and other hardware. This computer will provide the job with enough computing power to perform complex tasks and interact with people and machines, the company said.
