Ukraine launched a large-scale attack on eight regions of Russia on the last day of the presidential election, Reuters reports. At least 35 kamikaze drones flew at targets, including in the Moscow region, and in the capital of the Russian Federation, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in Krasnodar and air traffic was disrupted.
Moscow has accused Kyiv of sabotaging the election through its attacks on Russian infrastructure over several days, one of the biggest airstrikes on Russian soil since President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine two years ago.
Putin, who is almost certain to be re-elected, has promised to punish Ukraine for these attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the military and intelligence services for new “long-range capabilities” in a late-night video message on Saturday, without mentioning the increased attacks reported by his country’s forces.
Reuters said it could not independently verify the information.
Fire at an oil refinery in Krasnodar
The Russian Ministry of Defense wrote on Telegram on Sunday that 17 drones were destroyed over the Krasnodar region in southern Russia, four over the Moscow region, and the rest over six other regions.
“The drones were neutralized, but as a result of the fall of one of the devices, a fire broke out,” the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar region in southern Russia reported on Telegram.
Daily attacks on the Russian oil industry continue: currently, an oil refinery in the south of Russia in the Krasnodar region has been attacked by drones.
There are more Ukrainian drones in the air and new attacks may occur before morning.

The fire at the Slavyansk Oil Refinery in Krasnodar was extinguished, there were no casualties, although according to preliminary data one person died of a heart attack, the administration reported.
The head of the Sloviansk administrative district, Roman Siniagovsky, reported in Telegram that the workers of the oil refinery were evacuated, and there is no threat to nearby settlements from the incident.
The Slavyansk refinery, located about 70 km north of Krasnodar, processes about 4.5 million tons of crude oil a year, producing fuel mainly for export, but also sells some of its gasoline on the domestic market.
Ukrainian drones struck Moscow
The Mayor of Moscow, Serhii Sobyanin, said that there were no casualties or damage caused by the downed drones over three suburbs of Moscow.
Moscow’s Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports on Sunday morning imposed restrictions on flights for security reasons, the State Aviation Service of Russia said in a statement.
