“This is a critical moment for Romanian democracy. We have also reached the point where the abusive authorities are preparing to block the opposition’s right to run and unite in free elections,” said USR leader Ketalin Drula on Saturday night, who complained that the Central Election Bureau could block the party’s registration. United right-wing alliance, which includes USR, PMP and Forța Dretei.

  • “Tomorrow at 11 o’clock the Central Electoral Commission will issue a decision on the registration of the United Right Alliance, the democratic opposition of Romania. We have signals that the current government wants to block us, as was done in 2019 as well. Already in the morning, an abuse was committed by rejecting the representative appointed by the PMP in the BEC,” Drula said.

He refers to a possible reference to the fact that Evgeny Tomak is not listed as the president of the PMP in the Party Register.

  • “Because you will hear a lot of manipulation: Yevhen Tomach is the legitimate and elected leader of the PMP since 2022. In 2 years, a step that by law had to be taken within 15 days, namely registration in the Register of Parties. , detained for 2 years. The same thing happened to the UDR in 2019, but the Supreme Court of Cassation gave us the right. In addition, on the date of the last parliamentary elections in 2020, Marcel Čolaku, the de facto president, was not even listed in this register, where Viorika Denčila was listed,” Drula claims.

“It remains to be seen if we will have democracy in Romania and the opposition will be denied access to the vote”

According to him, “the documents and dossiers of the United Right Alliances were prepared flawlessly, precisely in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court from 2019.”

  • “Legal and political things are unquestionable. It remains to be seen if we have a democracy in Romania and the opposition is denied access to the vote or not. There have been many misses in the last years of the Iohannis regime, but this final step towards no free elections has not yet been achieved. It seems that they are desperate and capable of anything,” says Drula.
  • “Alianța Dreapta Unită is a political project that we have invested two years in building together with tens of thousands of USR members and our allies, for millions of Romanians who want a real alternative to the PSD-PNL, brutal regime. Johannis and Cholak. For you, the millions of Romanians who support us, we will move forward no matter what obstacles we face. We are ready and determined to fight to the end,” added the leader of the USR.

Tomač (PMP): In 2020, in the Register of Political Parties, the president of PSD was Viorika Dencila, but Čolaku was able to submit a list of BEC members and candidates to parliament on December 6, although he was confirmed by the head of PSD on December 6. December 15

The President of the People’s Movement Party, Eugen Tomak, reacted to the reason given in the minutes of the establishment of the BEC for the European Parliament and local elections on June 9, according to which the PMP does not have a representative in the Central Electoral Chamber. Bureau, since, according to public data entered in the Register of Political Parties, the function of PMP president is carried out by Cristian Diaconescu.

He told News.ro on Saturday that the Register of Political Parties in 2020 lists Viorika Dencila as PSD President, and PSD President Marcel Marcel was able to sign “submissions of members to the BEC and candidacies for the December 6 Election” to Čolak, who was not in the Register political parties”.

“In 2020, PSD President Viorika Dancila appears in the Register of Political Parties during the parliamentary elections. The elected president was Marcel Cholaku, but then PSD could run, now PMP can’t. Anyone who looks at the Register of Political Parties will see that PSD President Čolaku was finally recognized on 15.12.2020,” Eugen Tomak told News.ro on Saturday.

The PMP leader added that “during the submission of members to the BEC and candidacies for the elections on December 6, PSD President Marcel Čolaku, who was not in the Register of Political Parties, was able to sign. However, today the People’s Movement Party refuses to participate in political competition for a reason that did not exist even 4 years ago. Also, the one who asked for the exclusion of the PMP is PSD’s representative in the BEC.”

He also noted that “the PMP is being persecuted because it decided to be part of the active opposition alongside the UDR and the Right Force in the United Right.”

The protocol on the establishment of the Central Electoral Bureau for the European Parliament and local elections on June 9 explains why the formations PMP, Forţa Dreptei and REPER do not have representatives in the BEC. Thus, the People’s Movement Party does not have a representative in the BEC because, according to public data entered in the Register of Political Parties, the position of President of the PMP is held by Cristian Diaconescu and not by Eugen Tomac. Also, Forţa Dreptei and the REPER party do not have representatives in the BEC, as neither of the two political formations won mandates in the 2019 European Parliament elections.
