What do the prosecutors say?

The PCA Ploeşti Prosecutor’s Office expanded its investigation into a real estate fraud case targeting the White Tower and City Gate residential complexes in Ploeşti, several people were brought to a hearing on Thursday, including businessman Daniel Stefanescu.

“It was stated that in the period from 2022 to 2023, the defendants helped the developer from Ploiesti hide part of his assets both before and after the declaration of bankruptcy by performing various actions (for example, they took over 100 lei of shares in the company, in conditions where one an asset from the company’s assets was worth 3,000,000 euros, or they fictitiously increased the debts that the company owed to some people). All these actions led to the misleading of the victims, with whom the developer made promises to buy and sell the White Tower and the City Gate, with the idea that they would become the owners of the property in the future, creating a false impression that the developer had sufficient funds to complete the construction. , although the only consequence that was pursued was the impossibility of enforcement, thus covering the damages for a total amount of approximately 2,000,000 euros,” prosecutors say.

Lawyer Vlad Nichita and businessman Lupu Mihai (developer), who are under preventive measures, are also involved in this case. Also, Lupu Mărioara (the developer) and the notary are under house arrest, while the other notary is under judicial control.
