A 103-year-old Italian woman was caught driving in the middle of the night without insurance and with an expired license while “going to meet friends” near Ferrara (northern Italy), the Carabinieri announced in a press release. AFP reported on Thursday.

It was 1:00 a.m. Sunday night when the Carabinieri received a call about a car crash in the center of Bondeno, a town of 13,000 in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

A Carabinieri patrol that was dispatched to the scene was able to identify the vehicle: “They were surprised to find the driver born in 1920, meaning he is over 103 years old, but he can still get into the car and drive. in Bondeno to meet friends,” the message reads.

Considering the late hour, the hundred-year-old resident of the region, who was driving a car with a two-year driver’s license, according to the carabinieri, “was disoriented and continued to walk on the same streets.”

In Italy, starting at the age of 80, drivers must undergo a medical examination every two years to renew their driving license.

The old woman was fined, and then the carabinieri took her home.

But after this adventure, she did not accept that she would stay at home: “I am going to buy a Vespa or a scooter,” Giuseppina Molinari, nicknamed Giose, told the local newspaper La Nuova Ferrara. Until then, the hundred-year-old celibate goes to visit friends on a bicycle.
