There are two plenary sessions: Two Sessions or Lianghui as they are known in China. This year, the annual meetings of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPCC) and the National People’s Congress (NPC) were held from March 5 to 11.
The two sessions are important not only because it is the context in which the largest legislative body in the world meets and unanimously votes on what the party proposes to them, but above all because it is the only time when the Chinese chief executive appears before the people and the world and presents what goals were achieved last year and what the plans are for the next 12 months.
In the context of China, which is a very opaque state and decisions are made centrally for five years, this means that ordinary people do not have access to them, foreign investors do not know what to expect in terms of policy, economists, diplomats and of course the rest of the world does not know what the next geopolitical move will be.
Thus, the two sessions represent a moment of clarification. Or is it waiting.
