On Tuesday morning, about a hundred students occupied the main amphitheater of this institute of political science, a melting pot of the French elite, as part of the “day of mobilization of European universities for Palestine.”
Then a student of the Union des étudiants juifs de France (UEJF) was “not allowed to enter the amphitheater” where an action organized by the Palestinian Committee of Sciences Po was taking place, and “accusatory remarks were made (from the podium, no) against” the Sciences Po student association announced in the X social network.
“Don’t let her in, she’s a Zionist,” were the comments condemned by the UEJF union on X.
During a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the head of state condemned the “unconditional and absolutely intolerable” remarks, rejecting the “slightest signs of separatism” in higher education institutions, government spokeswoman Prisca Thévenot said.
The government will send a report to the judiciary on Wednesday to “contribute to the investigation and help mobilize the services to establish what happened”, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said, calling for “extremely tough sanctions”.
Asked by AFP, Hicham, a member of Sciences-Po’s Palestine Committee, denied that such a phrase had been uttered.
“It seems sad to me that unverified facts are reported directly to the President of the Republic,” emphasized the student, who did not want to give his last name. “We do not accept any form of anti-Semitism.”
