Four non-governmental organizations announced on Tuesday that they are suing Denmark to force the country to suspend arms exports to Israel, which is suspected of war crimes in the Gaza Strip, AFP reported, according to News.ro.
“Denmark should not send weapons to Israel if there are reasonable suspicions that the country is committing war crimes in Gaza,” Tim White, secretary general of the NGO Action Aid Denmark, one of the organizations behind the complaint, said in a press release.
“We need the justice’s opinion on Denmark’s responsibility,” he emphasizes.
The complaint was filed against the national police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after a Dutch court ordered the Netherlands to stop exporting parts for F-35 jets to Israel in mid-February.
A similar action was launched in Canada, where a coalition of lawyers and citizens of Palestinian origin filed a complaint against the government of Justin Trudeau.
In the Netherlands, the justice established that there is a “clear risk that serious violations of the humanitarian law of war will be committed in the Gaza Strip” by the Israeli F-35 fighter jets.
In Denmark, the investigative publication Danwatch revealed in November that Israeli F-35 jets are equipped with parts manufactured by the Danish company Terma.
Israel’s war in Gaza against the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas was launched after an unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7 in southern Israel that killed at least 1,160 people, according to an AFP count based on some official Israeli figures.
Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas, which it considers a terrorist organization, as have the United States and the European Union (EU).
The Hamas Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that the death toll in the enclave since the start of the war had risen to 31,184.
