The mayor noted that the investigation will continue to find out the reasons why the flame “spread, spread with such speed.”

“The first results of the national police investigation show that the fire probably started inside the kitchen and that it was caused by an electrical appliance,” Prefect Pilar Bernabe confirmed to the press.

This fire, one of the most tragic in recent years, shocked Spain and left hundreds of people homeless in Valencia, the largest city in southeastern Spain.

The element that broke out in the afternoon of February 22 in a 14-story building with 138 apartments spread rapidly throughout the building.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death of two women with Romanian citizenship, who were initially considered missing.

Two Romanian women were listed as missing in a fire that engulfed an apartment building in Valencia. They lived on the 8th floor of a 14-story tower directly above the apartment where the fire occurred.

Several experts have questioned the material used as insulation for the facade of the building to explain the extremely rapid spread of flames, as in the tragedy at Grenfell Tower in London in June 2017, in which 72 people died.

About ten days later, in Villajoyosa, near Alicante (southeast), another fire in an apartment building resulted in three deaths, two adults and a child.
