UDMR Senator Tanchos Barna said on Monday, regarding the trial won by Romania on the Roşia Montană trial, that he clearly remembers the discussions on this trial, when Prime Minister Nicolae Cucăt told them not to speak until it was over. The former environment minister also said he also had pessimistic information from lawyers and it was a miracle match won in overtime.

Tanchos Barna stated on Prima News’ Romania Politica show that ministers Kelemen Hunor and Korodi Attila were two ministers who were not impressed by the pressure and lobby of those from the Gold Corporation, and during their time this Roşia Montană project was blocked by the Romanian law and legal procedures.

“When I was in the ministry (the environment ministry, no), I clearly remember the discussions about this process, when Mr. Prime Minister Chuke gave us an order that no one should talk about the process until it was completed. From this point of view, Mr. Bolosh will be angry with me, but he should not have spoken. Another month of waiting would be welcome. I am convinced that the prime minister received the information from the minister, because neither Mr. Cholaku nor Mr. Chuke communicated with the lawyers,” said Barna.

He noted that for his part, when he was a minister, he had information from lawyers in this case.

“I also had information from lawyers, and it was pessimistic information. I would not be surprised, after this pessimistic information, if we lost. It was an amazing match won in extra time,” Tanchos Barna also said.

The UDMR senator emphasized that it would be much better if the Ministry of Finance followed the same line without making statements.

“This is a resounding victory for Romania, a victory that relieves the budget from pressure, relieves pressure from the government and all the prime ministers, all the ministers who contributed to this victory during the 10 years that the process lasted,” Tanchos Barna added.

An arbitration court in Washington rejected on Friday the claims of the plaintiffs in the case of Roşia Montană, companies Gabriel Resources Ltd. and Gabriel Resources (Jersey), forcing the companies to pay Romania legal costs as well as interest.

“Order Plaintiffs to reimburse Defendant for the costs of the arbitration in the amount of $1,437,574.01, together with simple interest at a risk-free rate represented by the interest rate on a three-month U.S. Treasury bill from the date of this award until full payment.” Order the plaintiffs to reimburse the defendant part of its legal costs in the amount of EUR 1,154,774.34, 30,284,053.32 lei and USD 928,641.70, together with simple interest at the risk-free rate, which is represented by the interest rate on the US Treasury bill in three months. from the date of this judgment until full payment. Rejects all other demands of the parties,” the decision reads. (news.ro)
