Minister of National Defense Ángel Tilvar confirms that there is no talk of re-introducing compulsory military service in Romania, pointing out that there is a project where those who wish can undergo four months of military training, with some benefits as a result.

“I said and I repeat: this problem does not arise. The army is not compulsory and, as you know, there is a project for the conscription of volunteer soldiers, which will also regulate the possibility of those who, for various reasons, wish to undergo military training. It is about a period of up to four months, including people aged 18 to 35,” Angel Tilvar said in an interview broadcast on Sunday by Digi 24, News.ro reported.

He specified that those who choose voluntary military training will have financial assistance, housing, food, equipment during the training period, and at the end will receive three average household wages, according to the project.

The Minister of National Defense also says that, regardless of the election period, “this problem does not arise” regarding the mandatory army.
