Mikaela Shiffrin won the special slalom and won the Crystal Globe

Shiffrin captured her eighth trophy in her favorite discipline after winning six of the nine slaloms she competed in this winter.

The athlete was timed after two stages with a time of 1 minute. 42 sec. 95/100 following 1 sec. 24/100 from the Croatian Zrinka Lutic and 1 sec. 34/100 Swiss Michelle Gisin.

The slalom race in Are was the last before the World Cup final in Saalbach (Austria). With 730 points in the World Cup special standings, Shiffrin has a lead of more than 200 points over her rivals, and it is no longer possible to reach it, regardless of the result in Austria.

In the general classification of the Alpine Skiing World Cup, the five-time medalist mathematically remains in the fight for the big Crystal Globe, having 345 points less (total 1309 points) than the leader of the Swiss Lara Gut-Berhramy (1654 points), in second place – the Italian Federica Brignone (1372 points), the winner of Saturday’s giant slalom at the Swedish resort, reports Agerpres.

But on Friday, Shiffrin announced that she was withdrawing from the speed tests (downhill and supergiant) of the final, and therefore would not be able to catch up with the Swiss in the overall ranking.

On March 16 in Saalbach (Austria), the Alpine Skiing World Cup continues.
