
Russian security forces killed six suspected militants during a special operation in the Russian republic of Ingushetia in the North Caucasus, the TASS news agency reported on Sunday, Reuters reports.
On Saturday, authorities implemented emergency counter-terrorism measures in the city of Karabulak after suspected militants opened fire on law enforcement officers in a residential building.

“The special operation has been completed. The regime of the anti-terrorist operation remains in force,” a law enforcement source told TASS.
The identities of the alleged militants are being established, said a source quoted by the RIA Novosti agency.
Ingushetia, Russia’s smallest region, lies between North Ossetia and Chechnya. Its population is about half a million people.
For nearly a decade until 2017, Russian security forces fought an armed insurgency led by a number of Islamist militant groups in Ingushetia, as well as Dagestan and Chechnya.
