Oleksandr Zverev defeated by Daniel Altmaier at the ATP in Acapulco

This season’s Australian Open semifinalist Zverev (6 ATP) lost after almost two and a half hours of play to the 57th-ranked athlete 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

The match was very balanced (22 winning shots and 15 unforced errors on both sides), and Altmeier was much more attentive in important moments and won, although he scored even fewer points than his opponent (78-80).

Daniel suffered four straight losses (to Fils, Khachanov, Coria and Diaz Acosta), but for the first time in his career he beat Zverev (who had won the previous two meetings).

In the next round, Altmaier will play Miomir Kecsmanovic (53 ATP), after the Serbian defeated Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman (117 ATP / wildcard), 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Favorites such as Holger Roon (2), Stefanos Tsitsipas (5), Casper Ruud (6) and Francis Tiafoe (8) move on, while Jordan Thompson (Los Cabos champion) was knocked out by Aleksandar Kovacevic (93 ATP).
