More than 7,000 underage mothers were registered in Romania in 2022, most of them, more than 400, in the county of Mures, according to documents from the Ministry of Family, which was 4.40% less than in 2021. Data from the National Institute of Statistics show that in 2021, almost a third of underage mothers in EU countries were from Romania.

According to the latest data, at the national level in 2022, 7,120 underage mothers were registered.

The largest number was in the county of Mures – 465, followed by Bihor – 341, Brasov – 332, Dolj – 332. Bacau – 282.

200 to 300 underage mothers are registered each in the counties of Arges, Bacău, Calarasi, Constanta, Iași and Sibiu, while in the counties of Alba, Arad, Buzău, Cluj, Covasna, Dambovica, Galaţi, Giurgiu, Harghita, Hunedoara, Jalomica, Ilfov , Maramures, Neamts, Olt, Prahova, Satu Mare, Selai, Suceava, Teleorman, Timis, Vaslui, Vranca, this number is from 100 to 200.

The county with the lowest number of underage mothers in 2022 is Gorj – 57. And in the counties of Bistriţa-Năsăud, Brăila, Mehedinti, Tulcea, Vâlcea, the number of underage mothers in 2022 was less than 100.

151 underage mothers are registered in Bucharest in 2022.

According to the Ministry of Family, in 2022 the number of underage mothers on the register is 4.40% less than in 2021, and in 2020 – by 14.66%.

The National Institute of Statistics recently published data showing that in 2021, underage mothers in Romania accounted for almost a third of underage mothers in EU countries.

The same data for 2021 show that by age category, underage mothers aged 10 to 14 in Romania make up almost half of the total in the EU, 15-year-olds almost half and 16-year-olds more than a quarter of the total EU levels. (news.ro)
