Another Navalny is in the sights of the Russian authorities. Oleg Navalny, 40, is less well-known than his brother Alexei, who died in prison on Friday, February 16, but he is also waging a political battle against Vladimir Putin’s government.

Having also been in prison, Oleg is the target of persecution following the death of his older brother, Russian news agency TASS reported, citing Le Parisien. The Russian authorities have not announced the reason for putting him on the wanted list, stating without explanation that Oleg Navalny is a suspect in a new criminal proceeding.

Until 2013, Oleg Navalny never had any problems with the law. Then 30 years old, he was the first deputy director of the express delivery company EMS Russian Post before, like his brother, he was involved in the Yves Rocher business. On December 30, 2014, he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for fraud and money laundering – the same sentence received by Oleksiy Navalny, but conditionally. Oleg was finally released on June 29, 2018.

Then Oleg Navalny was sentenced to one year of conditional imprisonment for “health articles” for illegally organizing a demonstration in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. He was eventually placed under house arrest from January to April 2021 with an electronic bracelet.

The Russian-language independent publication Mediazone in Telegram reports that Oleg Navalny’s wanted list is not related to the death of his brother. Contrary to what the Russian authorities claim, he is not the subject of a new criminal proceeding, but is wanted for failure to fulfill his probation.

Since his last conviction, he had to report regularly to the authorities, which he did not do. Therefore, now, like other members of the family of Alexei Navalny, he is in the field of view of the Russian authorities.
