The European Commission will finance a feasibility study for the construction of a new bridge across the Danube between Giurgiu and Ruse, and later Romania will also request funding for the construction of the bridge, PNL MEP Dan Motreanu said.

According to him, the technical and economic feasibility study costs seven million euros, and at the next stage, our country will be able to claim financing for the construction of the bridge from EU funds.

• “I hope that the matter will develop as quickly as possible so that we can apply for the actual financing of the works. At the moment, the project is presented only as a road bridge, with a railway option. I hope there will also be a bridge for the rail connection, because it is on this North-South corridor, which should serve the modern Danube crossing,” said Adina Valean, the European Commissioner for Transport, according to the MEP. .

PNL leader Giurgiu says it will be the third bridge across the Danube between Romania and Bulgaria and the second between Giurgiu and Ruse.

• “The length of the bridge will be two kilometers and 15 kilometers of access infrastructure will be created on the Romanian side and 15 kilometers on the Bulgarian side. The new Giurgiu Ruse Bridge will be built near the existing one, while the current bridge will continue to be used. In April 2022, the then Prime Ministers of Romania and Bulgaria, Nicolae Chuke and Kyril Petkov, discussed the construction of this and four other bridges across the Danube.
