A US diplomat on Wednesday mocked a Russian-made car presented by Vladimir Putin to Kim Jong-un, implying that it must be of low quality, AFP reported.
“I hope Kim has an extended warranty from the manufacturer,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller joked.
“Honestly, I didn’t even know such a Russian luxury car existed,” he joked.
The president of Russia presented the North Korean leader with a car, North Korean state media reported on Tuesday, as part of strengthening ties between the two countries.
Kim Jong-un “received a Russian-made car for his personal use from Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, the President of the Russian Federation,” state news agency KCNA reported.
Kim’s influential sister Yo Jong said “the gift (was) a clear demonstration of the special personal relationship between the top leaders” of the two countries, the North Korean news agency added.
The model of the vehicle is not specified in the publication. Kim is known for his taste in luxury cars.
During the North Korean leader’s visit to Russia last year, Putin invited him for a ride in the back seat of his Aurus Senat presidential limousine.
