The Department of Health announces that it has approved funding for the digitization of PIAS – the NHS IT platform – which includes important cyber security elements. The initial funding from €70 million has been increased to €100 million exclusive of VAT exclusively for the digitization of the National Health Insurance Fund and the optimization of the Health Insurance IT Platform (PIAS), the Ministry of Health announced. The deadline by which the health insurance system must be digitally transformed is the 3rd quarter of 2025.
More than 25,000 healthcare providers (hospitals, specialized clinics, laboratories, family doctors, pharmacies, medical equipment suppliers, home care providers) will be connected to the new PIAS platform. “It is very important to emphasize that the current system will not be affected. The changes to PIAS will provide a friendly and accessible environment for users, including those with disabilities, and will improve the interconnection and compatibility of the system,” says the Ministry of Health.
Other goals included in the funding program:
– new functionality (for example, digitization of some documents related to medical activities)
– optimization of data flows, electronic monitoring of general goals, specific goals, activities and performance indicators adopted at the CNAS/CAS/health care provider level
– compatibility of information systems at the level of inter-institutional public administration, use of inter-organizational data and existing resources at the national level (according to other investments planned at this level)
“More than 400 million euros have been invested in the digitalization of the healthcare system in Romania through PNRR and European funds. The funding approved today increases direct investment in health digitization through Component 7 of the PNRR to €200 million, following the Ministry of Health’s approval at the end of January this year of funding for the digitization of health facilities under the Ministry of Health, as well as its own digitization of the ministerial apparatus,” the Ministry of Health informs.
