A Russian strike on the city of Kramatorsk in eastern Ukraine on Saturday hit several houses, and rescuers are searching for other people who may be under the rubble, according to a statement from the regional governor.
AFP journalists at the scene saw rescuers carrying the body, while others were sorting through the debris, Agerpres writes.
According to the governor Vadym Filachikin, under the ruins of one of the damaged houses “allegedly” there is a family of four people, among them teenagers 14 and 16 years old.
“At first there was a loud noise, then an explosion, and finally the windows and doors of our house were blown out by the explosion,” says 25-year-old Oleksandr, a resident of the city.
“I was in the hall, playing with my two-year-old daughter and a cat. We know people who lived in this “ruined house,” he added.
Dozens of rescuers who arrived at the scene of the attack worked by the light of lamps and sometimes with the help of shovels and their own hands to move the debris, AFP journalists noted.
The attack left a large crater near the house.
Kramatorsk, the last major city in Donbas under Ukrainian control, is located about 20 kilometers from the front line in eastern Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the war two years ago, this city has repeatedly been attacked by Russian troops. In April 2022, the railway station in Kramatorsk became the target of a bombing, as a result of which more than 60 people died.
