Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday expressed his desire to act as a mediator in achieving a “fair” peace between Ukraine and Russia, Reuters and Agerpres news agencies reported.

“We gathered parties in Turkey several times. We can do it again and open the door to peace by managing a solution-oriented process without outside influence. In our meetings with both President (Russia’s Volodymyr) Putin and President (Ukraine’s Volodymyr) Zelensky, we continue our efforts for this,” Erdogan said after returning from a visit to Egypt.

On the other hand, Erdoğan said that the views of Turkey and the US coincide in more and more files.

He noted the positive dynamics of relations between Ankara and Washington after Turkey’s promotion of the contract for the purchase of American military aircraft F-16.

“The number of issues on which we think alike or agree with the United States is increasing. There is currently no negative trend. On the contrary, there is a positive development,” the Turkish president said after being asked about Turkey’s approval of Sweden’s entry into NATO and progress on the F-16 contract.
