While Biden favors a two-state solution, Palestinian Authority school textbooks deny the existence of Israel and glorify terrorism.
The Israeli newspaper Ynet News analyzes how this concept is presented in Palestinian education.
The Palestinian Authority (PA) was created based on the Oslo Accords of 1993-1994, negotiated between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization. And yet nowhere in any AP textbook does the territory of Israel appear in its borders prior to 1967. The entire region between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea is referred to in the textbooks as “Palestine.” Here are two examples among many others:
- The lesson entitled “Palestine – Arab and Muslim” presents a map called “The Map of the Arab Homeland”, on which the entire country is painted in red, and next to it is written the name “Palestine” and the Palestinian flag (Manual of Social and Public Education IV cl. .1 h [2020]page 8).
- On a map titled “Map of Palestine and the Levant” (Textbook of Geography and New and Recent History of Palestine, Class X, Part 1), Palestine appears as a sovereign state that replaced the state of Israel, between Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. [2020]page 8).
PA textbooks replace the official name Israel with the term “Zionist occupation”: “[…] the Arab armies withdrew from Palestine, and in 1949 the Armistice of Rhodes was signed between the Zionist occupation and each of the countries of Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon separately […]” (Textbook on Geography and New and Recent History of Palestine, Class X, Part 1 [2020]page 7).
The territory of Israel before 1967 is defined as the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948 [urmează textul unui exercițiu matematic – n.trad.].
“The chart below details the number of Palestinians in 2015, according to the Palestinian Statistical Center:
- 4,750,000 – West Bank and Gaza Strip
- 1,470,000 – In the territories occupied in 1948
- 5,460,000 – in the Arab states
- 685,000 – In foreign countries
Arrange the regions where the Palestinians live in descending order of population.” (Mathematics Guide, Grade 4, Part 1 [2020]page 22).
Therefore, the territory of Israel before 1967 must be returned to a sovereign Palestinian state.
This is how the city of Jaffa is mentioned in the vocabulary exercise: “2. It would be normal for Jaffa to return to our bosom” (Arabic Textbook, Grade 8, Part 2 [2019]page 102).
In the vision of a free Palestine, there is no place for the state of Israel either (Guide to natural science and life, 2 cl. [2020]page 65).
Terrorism is an integral part of the liberation of Palestine. Dalal al-Mughrabi, the mastermind of the 1978 terrorist attack on a bus carrying Israeli civilians along the coast that killed more than 30 men, women and children, is considered a role model for Palestinian schoolchildren. V class, in the lesson spread on four pages, of which we present the first:
“Dalal al-Mughrabi
Our Palestinian history is full of numerous names of martyrs who gave their lives, sacrificing themselves for the homeland. Among them, the martyr Dalal al-Mughrabi painted a picture of defiance and courage with her struggle, which made her memory eternal in our hearts and minds. The text before us tells of one aspect of her journey as a warrior.’ (Textbook on the Arabic language, class V, part 2 [2020]page 51).
