Toni Kroos says Leipzig’s goal should have been disallowed, but Carlo Ancelotti disagrees

Leipzig scored through Sesko, but the referees ruled that Henrichs (offside) had prevented Lunin’s intervention by pushing him.

Midfielder Toni Kroos said the goal should have been disallowed, but coach Carlo Ancelotti said it was “clearly offside”.

“I think in the end there was an offside because their player got in the way of Lunin. But it must be admitted that our goalkeeper could not reach the ball, so the goal had to be counted. I see no reason for it to be otherwise” – Toni Kroos.

“He disallowed the goal, I understand it was goalkeeper interference because the player pushed Lunin and I think he was quite clearly offside” – Carlo Ancelotti.

Brahim Diaz scored the only goal of the game early in the second half, after a move that saw him round several players and beat Gulaci with a shot from outside the box.

The return match will take place on March 6.

Thierry Henry: “If you’re offside, put your hands up or don’t move”

Former great striker Thierry Henry, who commentates Champions League matches for CBS, explained why the goal was disallowed.

You can see Henrichs in the goalkeeper’s path. I don’t think the keeper would have reached Cesco to stop it, it wouldn’t have made a difference, but if you’re offside and you push him then it’s offside.

We have a rule and we all know it. If you are offside and don’t want to interfere with the phase put your hands up or don’t move I think the goal would have been scored but he went to the keeper and pushed him hard” – Thierry Henry.
