Lloyd Austin, who is being closely monitored after several undisclosed hospitalizations for prostate cancer, is “recovering well and resumed duty at 5:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. GMT),” according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense. The minister “will recover and work remotely before returning to the Pentagon at the end of the week,” the quoted source said.

According to the minister’s doctors, the bladder problem should not affect the prognosis of his cancer treatment, which “remains excellent.”

According to Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder, the White House and Congress were well informed about the minister’s health before his latest hospitalization.

Austin, 70, was admitted to Walter Reed Military Medical Center on Sunday for a bladder emergency.

On Thursday, he was supposed to take part in the meeting of defense ministers of NATO countries and separately on Wednesday – in the meeting of the contact group on Ukraine.

On the last day of the month, Lloyd Austin is called to testify in Congress that he initially hid even from President Joe Biden previous hospitalizations in December and January, which provoked a political scandal and led Republicans to accuse him of dereliction of duty.
