The Minister of Research revealed to Digi24 that this deepfake phenomenon also exists in Romania and around the world, writes News.ro.

Bohdan Ivan stated that the parliament has a law against deepfake, which contains very clear rules for those people or companies that create fake content.

“Of course, it should be voted on as soon as possible, because it is under debate in the Chamber of Deputies, it should be included in the agenda, and by April we will have this law,” the minister said.

Ivan emphasized that the law provides for fines for those who create fake content from 600 to 90,000 lei, and if a court in Romania finds a very serious violation of the law, then those people who initiated such content can also stop with imprisonment for a term up to two years

The Research Minister revealed that he had discussed the entire industry, with major social media platforms where such videos or photos are shared.

“At the moment, we are going to meet, in particular, to create a set of filters to make it much more difficult to upload such content to the network that uses artificial intelligence and does not reflect reality,” Bohdan Ivan said, adding that we are talking about Facebook, Instagram, Google, Microsoft.

The minister also noted that it is important to achieve a mechanism to remove this content in a very short time.

“The first and easiest thing is to create this filter so that there is as little fake content as possible on social networks,” he noted.
