At a benefit concert at Salisbury Cathedral in southern England, Camilla said Charles had been overwhelmed by messages of support from the public.

“It’s very good under the circumstances,” she said. “He is very touched by all the letters and messages from the public from all over. It’s very inspiring.”

Charles’ son and heir to the throne, Prince William, thanked the British public on Wednesday for the kind messages about his father and his wife, Kate, following a recent operation.

Kate, 42, underwent elective surgery on January 16 and then spent two weeks in hospital recovering.

Charles has since undergone treatment for an enlarged prostate before Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that further tests carried out on the monarch revealed he had a form of cancer.

While the king has put his public duties on hold to receive outpatient treatment, and Kate is not expected to return to her duties until after Easter, the onus of representing the monarchy in public falls to the rest of the royal family, including William and to Camille
