Will Prince Harry and Prince William ever reconcile after years of estrangement? The Duke of Sussex’s arrival in London on Tuesday to visit King Charles III, who is suffering from cancer, has renewed hopes of reconciliation within the royal family, AFP reports.

The king’s youngest son left Los Angeles hours after the shock announcement that his father was suffering from cancer, discovered during prostate surgery ten days ago.

He arrived in London at noon on Tuesday at Heathrow Airport, from where he headed to Clarence House, the monarch’s London residence near Buckingham Palace.

However, the visit to his father was short-lived as the King and Queen Camilla were seen leaving Clarence House 45 minutes later.

As with his emergency visit for Charles’ coronation in May, Prince Harry, who has fallen out with his father and especially his brother William, traveled from California alone without his wife Meghan and their two children Archie and Lilybeth.

“Is it time for Harry to go home?” asked the tabloid The Mirror on Tuesday, which, like most British newspapers, devoted long articles to a potential reconciliation at a difficult time for the British monarchy.

Will Harry also visit William and his wife Kate?

The princess is recovering from abdominal surgery for which she was hospitalized for 13 days before recovering, which is expected to last at least until Easter.

While Charles is shocked by the conflict between his sons and hopes for a rapprochement, William is sure that trust (…) has been completely destroyed, writes the Daily Mail.

The king continued to express his affection for his youngest son, for example by mentioning his “love” for him in his speech after Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022.

But his brother seems to have felt that he was harshly criticized in Harry’s autobiography, Spare, published a few months later.

In it, the Duke of Sussex is particularly critical of his older brother, whom he describes as short-tempered, and talks about his pain at being “his shadow, (his doppelgänger), (his) plan B” all his life. He also implies that William did not marry his wife Kate for love.

Interrupted dialogue between two brothers

The last time the princes appeared together was in September 2022 at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, and according to analyst Richard Kay, William and Harry did not exchange “a word” for months.

According to British media reports on Tuesday, no meeting between the two brothers is planned during Harry’s stay in Great Britain.

By the time the book was published, the relationship between Lady Dee’s two sons, who had been very close in the past, had already deteriorated significantly, with tensions and conflicts arising under constant pressure from the British tabloid press.

Harry and Meghan have finally slammed the door on the royal family and given up their duties. In 2020, he moved to the US, constantly criticizing the British monarchy in interviews and documentary series on Netflix.

In an interview with the famous American TV presenter Oprah Winfrey, they also stated that members of the royal family doubted the color of their son Archie’s skin even before he was born.

Last year, the prince returned to Britain twice: for his father’s coronation and in June for one of the court battles with the British tabloids.

Despite the distance that has formed between the siblings, “the royal family, like any other family, must remain united” in the face of a difficult ordeal with cancer, and a rapprochement, however small, could take place in the coming weeks, according to the report. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, interviewed by AFP.

“The only thing they have in common is their love for ‘daddy dear’, the only father they have left,” Camilla Tomini, another monarchy expert, told the Telegraph.
