Returning from a pregnancy layoff, Sevastova started the first set strongly, taking a 4-0 lead and losing just two games to Andrea Mitu.
Having reached the 656th place in the world, the Latvian did not slow down even in the second act, advancing to the next round in one hour and 27 minutes.
In the 1/8 finals, Anastasia Sevastova will meet the sixth favorite of the competition, Elina Avanesyan (61 WTA).
For access to the main draw, Andrea Mitu will receive a check for $2,804 and 1 point in the WTA ranking.
Transylvania Open will be held from February 5 to 11 in Cluj-Napoca. The tournament is held on closed hard, is part of the WTA 250 category and has a total prize pool of $267,082.
The competition was held three more times: 2021 (Anette Kontaveit won, score 6-2, 6-3, after the final with Simona Halep), 2022 (Anna Blinkova won, score 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, with Jasmine Paoloni ) and 2023 (Tamara Korpatch lifted the trophy after 6-3, 6-4 with Gabriela Ruse).
