The lifeless bodies of two men were found in the French department of Var, and the prosecutor’s office in Draguignan says it is considering the hypothesis of a woman’s murder followed by suicide, reports AFP.

According to the first elements of the investigation, it seems that the man may have killed his seriously ill wife in bed before shooting himself, said Pierre Coutnier, Draguignan’s prosecutor, in a press release.

The bodies were discovered by a family member who went to their home.

The technical and scientific findings of the police are ongoing, adds the prosecutor, who entrusted the investigation to the Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël police station and ordered an autopsy.

A femicide in France occurs on average every three days. According to a Home Office report, 118 women were killed by their husbands or ex-husbands in 2022.
